Session: Skate Sim (Game Preview) is heading into its final year of production after being in Xbox Game Preview since 2019. It’s been a fantastic journey, and we would not have been here today without our awesome fans from the Xbox Community.
Session: Skate Sim has been built from the ground up with a focus on realism. We’ve always been focused on delivering a super realistic simulation and despite the assumption that Session: Skate Sim is animation based, this physics update finally proves how much of a misconception that was, as we couldn’t have reached this level of realism without being fully physics driven from the get-go. The building blocks are finally in place and shaping up to become what we’ve always envisioned for the game. Your velocity, player weight, length of the board, and even the size of the wheels all determine what ‘real world’ physics are applied to the Skateboard. We also let you set these physics to a level you want, letting your skate the way you want! With such a unique feeling, we’ve been able to see players create stuff we’ve never seen before in skateboarding video games.
On top of the physics improvements, our most recent update has allowed us to focus now on making the game visually pop. We’ve polished movement, refined character animations, and generally improved the smoothness and responsiveness of the game to an incredible level.
We’ve also got two new maps in this update, the legendary NYC Bronx skate spot: Jerome Avenue Banks and FDR Park. Also joining us for this update are five new pro skaters as playable characters: Manny Santiago, Billy Marks, Mark Appleyard, Antiferg, and Beagle.
Session: Skate Sim has plenty to offer every level of skater. The twin-stick controls make for a complex but intuitive system. We’ve also added control ‘difficulty’ options so you can skate with anything from an arcade feel to hyper-realistic physics. While this may sound daunting (and certainly takes a little getting used to), we also have improved the first-time user experience with a fun and easy tutorial – introducing the basics of skateboarding and movement.
We will keep working toward the full release this Fall, stay tuned for more.
