Well now it’s official. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is on the way this fall, and it’s packing a new campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone 2.0.
More war
Not that call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has been a secret at all, but now it’s been officially unveiled by Activision. Today’s announcements include a bunch of screens, as well as a first-look trailer, and a fair shake of details about what fans can expect.
Quiet frankly, and I do say this as a fan of the franchise, it’s looking spectacular. While the trailer does make with the dramatics, it also looks flat-out incredible. It’s terrific to see Task Force 141 in action, in what Activision is calling a “generation leap forward”.
Check it out:
Players will experience what made Task Force 141 become the iconic and legendary squad that it is, featuring familiar heroes and new allies who will be challenged to work together in missions across Europe, Asia and the Americas. The Campaign is set to be an incredible experience, featuring offshore sieges with underwater combat, all-out explosive assaults from 30,000 feet above enemy strongholds, and high-stakes, low-profile stealth missions. Players can also join up with their duo for evolved Special Ops, a tactical co-op mode that will advance team-building skills, and also sets the scene for the near-endless hours of gameplay available in the world-class Multiplayer.
Activision press release
Then there’s the multiplayer
This is CoD, so of course there’s going to be multiplayer, and it’s likely going to be right in line with earlier games in the set. Activision didn’t go overly deep on the multi today, though we did get a few nuggets.
For starters, players can expect to be able to level-up their weaponry, and “explore a wide range of maps and modes, meet an international cast of Operators and more.” That’ll come complete with a “massive” amount of post-launch content, that’ll be free of charge. Yeah, you read that right. Included will be “new maps, modes, and blockbuster special events that can’t be missed.”
The above too, is in addition to Warzone 2.0, that’ll see the super-popular free multiplayer mode evolve. Featuring “new technology, new features, and new gameplay”, Warzone 2.0 promises a “state-of-the-art” experience for players, that will maintain a degree of separation from annual CoD launch events. Not that it’ll be replacing the original Warzone though.
According to the press release, that’ll remain as its own thing. Warzone will still hold the same “continuation of player progression and inventories” that you’re used to now.
Oh, and if you’re worried about cheating in all of this multiplayer madness, maybe don’t. While it remains to be seen how well it works, RICOCHET Anti-Cheat will be released for day one of Modern Warfare II and the all-new Warzone 2.0.
Loads more to come on all of the above though, so stay tuned as we head to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s launch on October 28th, 2022.
