Yo ho! Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones lives, and is coming this fall

The age of piracy lives again, thanks to Ubisoft. The publisher has finally made good on its long-awaited pirate game, Skull and Bones.

Avast!

No, you’re not dreaming, though you’d be forgiven if you thought you were. After all, it’s been ages since Skull and Bones was announced, and it was more or less left for dead a few times since. But, the fact remains, it’s at long last real. And more than that, it’s coming out this year, landing in November.

Check out the first look at the game, via cinematic trailer, and an overview of the gameplay.

Skull and Bones is set during the so-called second Golden Age of Piracy. That’d be the end of the 17th century, for the uninitiated. Ubisoft calls it a “chaotic and ruthless era of pirates, warring factions, powerful organizations and empires all vying for power in the untamed paradise of the Indian Ocean”. And from the trailer, it looks every bit that.

Ubisoft has big plans for Skull and Bones too, with a huge world to play in that’s set to be supported well past launch. The company promises that the game will be “regularly updated with new content, activities, stories and challenges.” The best part of that is that all of the above will be free. All you need is a copy of the base game to get in on the action.

Speaking of, you’ll obviously be able to play Skull and Bones solo, but there’s a lot more to it. Would-be sea dogs will be able to team up with up to 2 other players to cause a little high-seas havoc as well. And you’ll be able to find out who the top pirate is too, with a little player vs player.

That’s optional however, and will need to be enabled to make use of it.

Setting sail

Skull and Bones will arrive on November 8th, 2022 for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC (via Epic and Ubi’s own shop), and both Luna and Stadia. You can expect to see both standard and premium editions make landfall, with the premium including a bunch of extras.

In it, you’ll find “The Ballad of Bloody Bones Collection” (which will include cosmetics for captains and their ships), two extra missions, a digital Art Book, and the game’s Soundtrack. To top it all off, there’ll also be a “Smuggler Pass” Token (whatever that is).

And finally, if you think you might want to join Skull and Bones’ crew, then you might want to pre-order. Those who do will get a couple more buffs, including the “Highness of the High Sea Pack”. That’s stocked with the “Notoriety Garb Captain Outfit” and “Coronation Firework”. Who doesn’t like fireworks?
