SDCC 2022: The iconic Heavy Metal magazine crashes the Con with a booth, party, and more

There’s gonna be a whole lotta rocking going on at SDCC 2022, thanks to Heavy Metal. The classic illustrated fantasy mag has quite a bit planned.

Whoa, that’s Heavy

It might have been a while since you’ve heard the name ‘Heavy Metal’. But if you think the brand has gone anywhere, you’d be wrong. Heavy Metal is not only still around, but it’s actually gotten bigger.

Unlike back in the 80s and 90s, Heavy Metal now encompasses “a growing slate of comics and prose novels, a podcast network, film and television division Heavy Metal Studios, and so much more”. And this year, the company will be adding a major appearance at Comic Con to its list of accomplishments.

Not only will Heavy Metal have a booth on the show floor, but it’ll also be hosting a bunch of signings there, panels, and there’ll even be a party. On a boat. Yes, on a boat.

Booth #1529 will be the place for the in-Con events. There fans will find plenty to buy, “like the Peach Momoko cover edition of Taarna: The Last Taarakian #1” and a whole bunch of merch. As mentioned too, there’ll be a bunch of signings at that booth as well, with a schedule that looks a little something like this:

  • Thursday, July 21st
    • 3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.: Dan Fogler (writer: Moon Lake, Brooklyn Gladiator, FishKill; actor: Fantastic
    • Beasts, The Walking Dead, The Offer)
  • Friday, July 22nd
    • 2:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.: Isaac and Esau Escorza (artists: Heavy Metal Magazine, The Door, Teenage
    • Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin)
    • 4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.: Blake Northcott (writer: Arena Mode, Heavy Metal Magazine, Catwoman)
  • Saturday, July 23rd
    • 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m.: Gideon Kendall (writer/artist: WHATZIT, Marley’s Ghost, MAD Magazine)
    • 3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.: Brendan Columbus (writer: Savage Circus)

Don’t forget the panels

The event is courtesy of a partnership with iBoatNYC, and will serve up a special concert with DJ Matt Steffanina and “electronic artist” Doll Machine. Again, you can grab tickets right now, what each priced at $34.99 USD.
